Pustakaar is the brainchild of Shobha and Anil Bhansali. After living in the USA for many years, they returned to India in 2007. Their young sons loved to read and built a large collection of storybooks. As they outgrew the books, they wanted to pass on their love of reading. So, they donated the books to an under-served school and eventually started volunteering to read to the students. From there, the idea sparked to create a network of volunteers and a library that could travel to where it was needed.
